Academic Policy

  • DBU offers three semesters annually: Fall, Spring, and Summer, with enrollment available in each.

    • The Summer semester is shorter, requiring only a 3-credit CPT course.

    • For Fall and Spring, students must take the CPT course plus an additional 6 credits (two courses).

  • Students starting in Summer need to enroll in at least 6 credits, comprising a 3-credit internship and a 3-credit regular course.

CPT Policy

  • Dallas Baptist University (DBU) provides CPT work authorization for international students in accordance with USCIS regulations. Eligible international students can obtain CPT authorization from their first day of enrollment.
  • Transfer F-1 students from other schools or those switching to DBU during OPT can apply for CPT from their first semester, renewing it each term, and can work continuously under CPT authorization throughout their program.
  • Day 1 CPT Application Steps:
    • Log in to the school's Immigration Portal, read the CPT application instructions carefully, and ensure you meet the eligibility criteria.
    • Complete the CPT application online and submit the required documents (job offer, CPT Agreement, etc.).
    • Wait for CPT approval. Once approved, you will receive a new I-20 and can start working according to the CPT start date on the I-20.

*For those applying for an F1 visa from outside the U.S. for the first time, or transitioning from other statuses (such as H1B, H4, B1, L2, etc.) to F1 status, only the MS Information Technology Management – Professional Track currently supports Day-1 CPT. Students in other programs must wait until their third semester to start using CPT.

Onsite Policy

  • DBU's courses are offered in a hybrid format, with most requiring on-campus attendance once every 2 weeks. The majority of classes are scheduled during evenings or weekends.

  • Scholarships
    • Scholarship opportunities for international graduate students at DBU are limited. Currently, only the BGCT Ministerial Grant and Church Match scholarships are available for international students, with amounts under $5,000 and certain religious criteria.

Vacation Policy

  • The Summer term is a shorter semester, during which students may opt for a break, requiring only a 3-credit CPT course.

  • Requires completion of 30-36 credits;
  • Typically finished in an average of 24-36  months;
  • Can provide up to 2-3 additional opportunities for H1B lottery.

For students or professionals without an IT, business management, accounting, or finance background, the following  Day 1 CPT eligible programs can be considered:

    Specializations: Business Leadership, General Leadership, Global Leadership, Leadership in Ministry
  • Master of Arts in International Studies
    Specializations: Global Business, International Relations Master of Education in Teaching (eligible for Texas Teacher Certification)
  • Master of Education in School Guidance
*Note: For initial F-1 students needing Day 1 CPT, the only available program is the Master of Science in Information Technology and Management (STEM).
