A Day at GoElite: Where Training and Team Spirit Really Never Stops

What our summer actually looked like from the inside: a training calendar packed nearly every week, alongside moments of shared camaraderie such as watching a World Cup match together.

Walking through GoElite during an average day this summer, the immediate impression would be the dedication to continuous learning. Our training calendar was robust, featuring multiple sessions nearly every week. These trainings extend beyond compliance checkboxes; they equip our team to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving regulations governing international students. Our ability to provide accurate guidance depends on this proactive engagement before student inquiries arise.

This effort is led by Shama Parveen, who oversees our structured training and onboarding programs. At the core are comprehensive playbooks that guide our team through the F-1 visa process from start to finish, clarifying the distinctions among Curricular Practical Training (CPT) from day one eligibility and the criteria that determine student eligibility for such opportunities.

We also continuously update briefings on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) rule changes and their direct impact on students in our pipeline. Equally vital is maintaining clear boundaries during each session — defining the scope of our consultancy role versus when matters require a Designated School Official (DSO) or immigration attorney. This responsible approach is essential to safeguarding students and is strictly upheld.

Training then delves into specialized topics. Noren detailed change of status scenarios and key points of escalation. Alice guided the team through SEVIS transfer procedures, the I-20 issuance process, and authorizations for CPT, later addressing admissions workflows and customer relationship management system navigation. Jayson addressed student school selection strategies, emphasizing honest, data-driven responses when cost concerns arise. Charlotte provided insights on DHS and U.S. government agency structures. Helsther focused on cap gap extensions, grace periods, and visa status transitions, while Nicel clarified doctoral program distinctions and SEVIS transfer guidance.

When DHS released its final rule affecting Optional Practical Training (OPT), we convened a company-wide session to evaluate implications proactively rather than waiting for external queries.

Our learning approach extends outward through collaboration with university partners. Throughout the summer, joint training sessions allowed our team to receive direct guidance from institutional program managers, ensuring clarity on academic and training requirements beyond written policies.

Additionally, we engaged Adam Dexter, an external trainer, for sessions emphasizing soft skills and call management — acknowledging that delivering accurate information while communicating empathetically to students and families requires distinct skill sets. Ryan shared GoElite's marketing strategies, Shan outlined our student referral processes, and open Q&A sessions addressed complex topics regarding the U.S. higher education ecosystem. We also conduct regular internal evaluations to identify and close knowledge gaps proactively.

This intensive training would not be sustainable without a workplace atmosphere that fosters genuine collegiality. Our team’s spirit was energized this summer by gathering to watch a World Cup match together. For a brief pause in compliance discussions, colleagues from diverse backgrounds shared reactions — groaning, laughing, and debating substitutions — reinforcing the trust and connection that underpin our collaborative work.

There is a seamless connection between these two facets of our day. Our team guides students through decisions that profoundly influence their academic and professional trajectories, often amidst unfamiliar environments far from home. This responsibility demands resilience and expertise. A committed team that learns continuously and thrives together ensures that we provide the highest quality support, which ultimately reflects in every student interaction we have.
