Not selected in the H1b lottery, Here are 3 Solutions for You!

FY-2025 H-1B Has Officially Completed!

According to information provided by some law firms we work with, this year's selection rate is approximately 25%-30%. For those who didn't get selected, don't lose heart, and look forward to a possible second round of the lottery, just like last year.

Although this year comes with the new rule of "one person, one entry" we know that not everyone can be selected.

I understand the importance of the H1B visa; it represents the aspirations and hopes many people have for life in the United States. This year was my third time in H1B lottery, and I still wasn't selected, but that doesn't mean my dreams are shattered. Life is long, and there are many other possibilities.

1. Staying in the U.S.

How to stay in the U.S. if you don't win the H1B lottery? There are several options such as O1, L1, Day 1 CPT, among which Day 1 CPT is the simplest.

What is Day 1 CPT?

Day 1 CPT refers to certain master's or doctoral programs that allow students to start working under CPT from the very first day of the program. This means that even if you weren't selected for an H1B this year, you can still continue working using your student status. Utilizing this method can provide 5-8 years of work opportunity, which is ample time for either H1B applications or green card processing.

2.Moving to Canada

If you're not keen on returning to academia and becoming a student again, consider making Canada your new home. Canada is a diverse, open, and friendly country with numerous immigration opportunities and educational programs. Compared to the U.S., Canada's visa procedures are simpler, and it's relatively easier to settle down there.

In Canada, you can find many work and life opportunities similar to those in the U.S. Moreover, moving to the U.S. later on becomes easier. It's worth mentioning that Canada is indeed a very livable country; friends living there report that its social welfare system is comprehensive, with excellent healthcare coverage and educational resources. It's suitable for those looking to settle down.

3. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone: The World is Vast

Beyond the U.S. and Canada, there are many countries around the world that are great for working and living. You have the opportunity to explore a broader world and try a different lifestyle for a while.

Take some time off for yourself, travel to widen your horizons, and experience the cultures of different regions. During your travels, you might find places that suit you better. Traveling allows you to expand your network, make new friends, understand new cultures and societies, enriching your experiences and knowledge.
