From Netflix to GoElite: How We’re Using Data to Support Students at Scale

Last week, our product team had the chance to visit Netflix HQ in Los Gatos and meet with members of their data science team. Netflix’s approach to personalization—building smart, centralized systems that help users find exactly what they need—left a big impression on us. Their culture of “lead with context, not control” also resonated deeply. Even though we’re not a tech giant, we share the same goal: to deliver guidance that’s meaningful, accurate, and human, especially as we grow.

At GoElite, data plays an essential role in how we help international students, schools, and recruitment partners. We rely on tools like CRM systems to keep track of everything from student cases to school applications. These systems let us move fast while staying organized, making sure no detail slips through the cracks as we scale.

But data alone isn’t enough. We also lean heavily on human insight. Our marketing and advising team includes people with deep experience in political science and immigration policy—skills that help us navigate complex topics like Day 1 CPT, H-1B filing, or changes of status. This combination of tools and expertise helps us provide support that’s both accurate and empathetic.

In March, we launched the GoElite Forum, a space where international students can connect, ask questions, and share experiences. But we’re not stopping there. We’re working on ways to make the forum smarter—using open-source AI tools to analyze user behavior and deliver personalized recommendations. Imagine a student posting about H-1B issues and getting tailored suggestions for schools, programs, or even legal resources—all based on their goals and background.

Netflix showed us what’s possible when personalization is done right. We’re applying those lessons in our own way—building a recommendation system that learns from real student interactions, from forum posts to CRM activity. The result turns out really well. Smarter support, better guidance, and more peace of mind for students figuring out their next step.
