Academic Policy

  • Monroe University (ex-Monroe College) offers three semesters annually for its CPT Programs: Fall (September), Winter (January), and Spring (May).
  • International students are required to enroll in a minimum of two courses per semester, totaling 7 credits, which includes one online and one hybrid course.

CPT Policy

  • Both Transfer F1 and Initial F1 students can apply for CPT work authorization from the first semester of the program. Students applying for CPT need to enroll in an additional 1-credit internship course.
  • CPT Application: Students need to submit the CPT Request Form, Job Offer Letter, and the latest I-94 document to the school's Designated School Official (DSO) via email. Once the tuition fee is paid, the CPT will be approved.
  • CPT requires renewal every semester. There is no gap between CPT authorization periods.
  • If the current employer does not sign the CPT Agreement, reach out to the advisor for an alternative.

Onsite Policy

  • For F-1 students, attending these onsite courses is compulsory; absence can lead to the termination of their F1 student status.

  • Students are required to attend classes on campus once a month, equal to 3-4 campus visits each semester.

  • MBA, MSCS, MSDS, DS Certificate onsite classes typically take place on one single day, either Saturday or Sunday.

  • For other Day 1 CPT majors, you have two options:

    • You can attend onsite one day 2:40 PM-9 PM on a weekday every month.

    • You can attend onsite classes for two days 6 PM-9 PM within the same week (2 times per month onsite attendance).

Vacation Policy

  • Students can take a one-semester break after completing 18 credits consecutively (3 semesters).
  • During vacation, students can still choose to take 1 credits of CPT Internship course and work full-time using CPT.

CPT Programs

Master's programs:

  • Requires completion of 36-42 credits;
  • Typically finished in an average of 2.5 years, with the option to extend up to a maximum of 3 years for graduation;
  • Can provide up to 2-3 additional opportunities for H1B lottery.

Certificate programs:

  • Requires completion of 18 credits;
  • Typically completed within an average of 1 year. Since the program is a level above master’s programs, graduates are eligible to apply for OPT again;
  • Credit Transfer Opportunity: Students who have completed the Data Science Certificate Program have the option to transfer all 18 credit hours toward the MS in Data Science (STEM) program.
Master of Business Administration (EMBA)

The MBA programs at Monroe University (ex-Monroe College) hold accreditation from the ACBSP. It is structured to offer a comprehensive and wide-ranging perspective of the business landscape, equipping students with essential practical skills and knowledge vital for thriving in the current global business context. To graduate, students are required to complete 10 core courses (27 credits) and 3 elective courses from their concentration (9 credits).

Data Science Certificate

The certificate program, as a step above a master's degree, sets higher admission standards. Candidates are required to have a master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, or equivalent degrees to enroll in the Data Science Certificate program.

This program is particularly beneficial for those who have already completed a master’s degree in Computer Science or similar fields and have exhausted their OPT or STEM OPT. Upon completing the Data Science Certificate program at Monroe College, students are eligible to apply for an additional 1-year OPT. To graduate, students need to complete 18 credits.
