Hybrid Format & On-Site Requirement

Onsite Policy:

California Institute Of Advanced Management requires international student attend onsite residency class bi-monthly.

  • You will be required to attend the school twice per term (4 months), the first 2 times will be on the same weekend Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 9am-4pm, and the other time will be near the end of the term on the Saturday 9am-5pm, with the rest of the classes being online.


Vacation Policy:

International students at California Institute Of Advanced Management can take term breaks.

  • After completing three semesters, students may take a one‑semester leave of absence and remain eligible to apply for CPT during that time.
  • Students can apply for CPT work authorization during the vacation period.

 

CPT Policy

California Institute Of Advanced Management adheres to USCIS regulations to authorize CPT for international students.

Eligibility for CPT from Program Start

✅ Current OPT and F1 students may obtain CPT Authorization from Day 1 of the program.

❌ Oversea applicants cannot obtain CPT Authorization from Day 1 of the program.

❌ Change of Status (to F1 Status) applicants cannot obtain CPT Authorization from Day 1 of the program.

 

“Day 1 CPT Universities” isn’t an official term. It refers to schools that may allow CPT from the first semester, but approval isn’t guaranteed. CPT typically takes 5–15 business days after complete documents are submitted.

 

CPT Details

CPT authorization needs to be renewed every term.

CPT is not required for graduation.

Please note that CIAM does not require every student to apply for CPT; however, to successfully graduate, all students must complete INT501 during the first year and INT599 during the second year.

Position Requirements (for internship, employment, or volunteer work):
The role must be directly related to the MBA program, such as project or people management, marketing, advertising, social media, accounting, finance, budgeting, innovation and entrepreneurship, data analysis, or other business-related administrative duties.

Role Format:
Positions may be paid or unpaid, and can be part-time (20 hours or less per week) or full-time (more than 20 hours per week).

Graduation Requirement:

  • One INT501 (within the first year)

  • One INT599 (within the second year)

Work Hours:
A minimum of 45 work hours is required for each INT course.

Grading:
INT501 and INT599 are graded Pass/No Pass.

Credit Units:

  • INT501: 0.0 credit

  • INT599: 1.0 credit

Fees:
The first INT501 and the first INT599 are included in tuition.
Any additional INT599 courses will count as electives and are charged $500 per term.

Important for F-1 Students:
F-1 students must obtain CPT approval before registering for any INT course.

FAQs

What is the CPT renewal frequency at CIAM? CPT authorization must be renewed every semester. 
What is CIAM's on site requirement?
➢ 2 / Semester: one day each time (Saturday or Sunday), from 9 AM to 5 PM.
➢ F1 students are required to attend all on-site sessions; failure to attend will result in expel. 
➢ Students who cannot attend an on-site class must request leave in advance and receive approval from the professor.
➢ Leave from onsite courses is limited to no more than two instances per semester.
 
How long can I use CPT at CIAM? Throughout the whole program. However, if you use full-time CPT for more than 12 months, you will not be eligible for OPT post-graduation.
