What are the requirements for financial proof?

Simpler than feared: a bank statement from the last 3 months showing the school's required amount - no freezing needed. Savings or checking, USD or equivalent in another currency, one account or several combined, yours or a family member's or friend's (theirs adds a simple affidavit form). Investment accounts generally don't count.
