S5 Blog: Your First-Term Check-In: Closing the Transfer, I-20 and CPT Loose Ends
Quick answer. In your first two weeks, check four things: your SEVIS transfer is complete, your I-20 shows your new school, your CPT (if you're working) is printed on it, and the school isn't waiting on anything from you, such as an official transcript.
Transfer still open?
Tell your new school's DSO and us the same day. The school needs your record to register you and authorize CPT, so don't work on CPT until it's on your new I-20.
Waiting for your CPT I-20? Schools set their own turnaround, and many are slower this term. If it's past your school's usual timing, tell us, and don't work for that employer until the updated I-20 arrives.
Transcript requested?
Many schools accept an electronic official transcript, for example through the National Student Clearinghouse, sent straight to the address they give. Send it before the deadline to avoid a registration hold.
Who to contact: your advisor for classes and documents, your DSO for your I-20, transfer and CPT, and us when something is stuck. Save every ticket number; we escalate through our partner contact.
Next step: if anything above is still open, reply to our email today.
