S3 Q&A: My passport has expired - can I still be admitted and get my I-20?

Often your application can still be reviewed, but ask admissions whether they need your renewed passport before they issue your I-20, since the passport is one of the core I-20 documents. Start the renewal with your embassy now and keep the receipt - university international offices ask F-1 students to keep their passport valid while in the US. Tell us the expected renewal date, and our senior consultant checks how it affects your release or start dates.
