S3 Q&A: I'm on H-1B - should I quit my job now that I'm admitted?

No - keep your job and status until your consultant's timeline says otherwise; resigning ends the status you must keep while your change of status is pending. The I-539 is filed after your I-20 is issued, and your current status protects you while it's pending. Please don't give notice before you've talked with our senior consultant.

Please don’t resign before you’ve talked with our senior consultant. Quitting ends your H-1B work permission right away, you can’t work on CPT until F-1 is approved and CPT is authorized, and if the change of status were denied you’d have no status to fall back on. The I-539 is filed after your I-20 is issued, and your consultant times each step with you.
