S3 Blog: Refer a Friend: How the $200 Referral Bonus Works

Chances are you are not the only person in your circle thinking about studying in the U.S. A friend in your OPT cohort, a former classmate, a coworker whose H-1B situation is uncertain: they are often asking the same questions you did a few months ago.

If you have been through the admission process, your experience is useful to them. Our referral program is a way to say thank you when that experience leads someone to enroll. This guide explains how it works, how to get your personal link, why that link matters, and which details to confirm before you count on the reward.

Important: The referral reward is a program-specific offer from our team. It is separate from any university's admission process. Referrals do not influence admission decisions in any way. Terms can change, so confirm the current terms when you request your link.

The offer in plain terms
Our program advertises a $200 reward for each friend who successfully enrolls through your personal referral link. In practice:
  • The reward is per friend, per successful enrollment.
  • It applies when the friend enrolls (not simply when they inquire, apply, or are admitted).
  • The friend needs to come in through your personal link, so the enrollment can be connected to you.
  • You can be eligible whether you are already admitted, still deciding, or have decided to take a different path. If you chose another school, changed your plans, or are pausing, you can still refer friends who are looking for options. (If you are in that situation, our article on changing your plans respectfully may also help.)

How and when the reward is paid
When you request your link, ask us to confirm the current payout details in writing:
  • How the reward is delivered
  • When it is credited after your friend enrolls
  • How you redeem it

How to get started: four steps
  1. Get your personal referral link. Ask your consultant or our student support team to send it to the email address you use with us. You may also be able to create a free account on our student platform and find it there. Check the rewards page for the current sign-up path.
  2. Share it with your friend. Send the link directly, not just a school name or a general website address.
  3. Make sure your friend uses that link. They should apply or contact us through it, not through a different page or an independent application. (More on why below.)
  4. Confirm the eligibility and payout conditions. Ask us what counts as a "successful enrollment" for your friend's school, and when you can expect your reward.

Why the personal link matters
The link is how a referral gets tracked and attributed. If your friend finds us through a general search, a social post, or a link from someone else, the system may have no way of knowing you were involved.

In a recent call we reviewed, a student had already applied to several schools on their own, outside our process. In that situation, staff explained that adding us as the student's educational consultant could allow us to help with their application going forward. The lesson for referrals is similar: the way a friend begins their application can affect what support and tracking apply. If your friend has already applied elsewhere on their own, ask us before assuming anything about eligibility.

A few practical tips:
  • Ask your friend to use your link before they submit anything.
  • Keep a copy of the message in which you shared the link.
  • If something doesn't look right (the friend used a different page, or applied first), tell us promptly rather than hoping it will sort itself out.
We do not invent terms for you: if we cannot answer any of these questions in writing, treat the item as unconfirmed until we do.

A responsible way to talk to friends
  1. Be honest about your experience. Tell them what was easy and what wasn't.
  2. Don't promise outcomes. Nobody can guarantee admission, a visa, an I-20, or work authorization, and your friend's situation is not identical to yours.
  3. Point them to official sources. Encourage them to check details with the university and their own DSO.
  4. Disclose the reward if asked. It is fair for your friend to know you may receive one.
  5. Don't pressure anyone. Choosing a school is a big decision, and it belongs to them.
Next steps
If you'd like to refer a friend, ask us for your personal link, confirm the reward form and payout timing in writing, and share the link before your friend submits an application. If you have any doubt about eligibility, ask first. Our student support team can send you your link and answer questions about the current terms.
