S2 Q&A Does releasing my SEVIS record to a new school immediately end my current OPT?
Yes. Under federal rules your OPT work authorization ends automatically on the date your SEVIS record is transferred to the new school, even if your EAD card shows a later date. That's why the release date is chosen after admission, as close to your new program start as your status allows, and never requested early. Your current DSO sets the date; our senior admission consultant checks it against your EAD end date, grace period and program start.
