S2 Blog: How the Application Fee Waiver Works (and What to Do if You Were Charged)
The “Apply Now” link from day1cptuniversities.com, day1cpt.org, or through GoElite is a referral code that auto-waives your application fee. But it only works if you register with the right email and use it correctly. This article explains the system so you don’t end up paying when you shouldn’t.
How the Apply Now Link Works
When you ask GoElite about a specific school:
- GoElite verifies the partnership — we’re official referral partners with 25+ Day-1 CPT universities
- We send you the Apply Now link — via email, WhatsApp, or portal (link includes a unique referral code)
- You click the link — it directs you to the school’s application portal
- You register with your email — portal recognizes the referral code in the URL
- Fee is auto-waived — the portal shows “Application Fee: $0” or “Fee Waived”
- You complete your application — no charge at any point
Result: You save $50–$150 per school, depending on which school.
The Registered Email Rule (Critical)
The “registered email” is the email address you use when you first create your account in the application portal. It’s absolutely critical for the waiver to work.
Best practice scenario:
- GoElite sends the Apply Now link to your email: student@gmail.com
- You click the link (preserving the referral code in the URL)
- You register/create your portal account using the same email: student@gmail.com
- The portal recognizes the referral code AND your email
- Fee is auto-waived
- Confirmation emails go to student@gmail.com
What goes wrong (and how to fix it):
- GoElite sends link to student@gmail.com
- You click the link (good!)
- But you register with a different email: university.email@edu.com (bad!)
- The portal gets confused or the referral code doesn’t match
- Fee might not waive, or you get charged
- Confirmation goes to the wrong email
If this happens:
1. Email GoElite immediately with both email addresses and the school name
2. We contact the school and flag your application
3. School usually refunds or removes the charge
4. Waiver is applied retroactively
“How Did You Hear About Us?” Field
Many application portals ask this question with a dropdown or text field. Even though the link already has the referral code, this field is a backup.
What to select or enter:
- “GoElite” (if that’s an option)
- “Day-1 CPT consultant”
- “Referral” + paste the referral code we gave you (if no GoElite option exists)
- If the field says “Other,” you can type: “GoElite referral”
The school tracks referral sources for their own records that is why selecting GoElite in this field confirms the referral (backup to the URL code). This helps the school flag your fee waiver if the code somehow didn’t work and ensures the right account gets credit for your admission.
If you skip this field: The link code should still waive the fee, but you’ve lost the backup confirmation. Best practice is to fill it in.
One Referral Per School Per Cycle
You can only use one GoElite Apply Now link per school per application cycle.
What “per cycle” means: Fall 2026 cycle: One application to School A (waived fee). If you want to apply to School A again in Spring 2027 cycle, you will need a new link. But for Fall 2026, you can’t apply twice to the same school and get two fee waivers
Scenario that causes problems: - You click the GoElite link for School A and register. Later, you think: “Let me try School B too”. You click the same School A link again (wrong!). The portal rejects it because you already have an application. Or the portal says “This link has already been used by you”
The correct approach: Each school has its own unique Apply Now link. Ask GoElite for the specific link for each school (we have them organized). Use Link 1 for School A, Link 2 for School B, Link 3 for School C . Each link auto-waives the fee for that specific school
How to ask GoElite: Email or message: “I’m interested in applying to [School A], [School B], and [School C]. Can you send me the Apply Now links for each?”
We’ll send you three separate links (one per school). Use each one once.
If You Were Charged When You Shouldn’t Have Been
Step 1: Confirm what happened
- Check your confirmation email from the school.
- Look for “Application Fee” line. Does it say “$0” (waived) or “$50–$150” (charged)?
- Check your payment confirmation from your credit card or bank
- Do you see a charge from the school?
Step 2: Email GoElite with details Include: - School name - Date you applied - Amount charged (if any) - Your registered email address(es) - Screenshot of the confirmation showing the fee (or charge) - Name of the referral link you used (if you know it)
Step 3: GoElite contacts the school - We reach out to our contact at the school. We provide your application details and explain the situation. The school’s admissions office flags your file and they usually refund or waive the fee within 1–3 business days.
Step 4: You get refunded - Refund goes back to your original payment method (credit card, bank transfer, PayPal). This may take 3–7 business days depending on your bank/payment processor. The school should send you a confirmation email stating the refund
Step 5: Verify the refund - Check your bank statement or credit card statement after one week. Look for the refund amount appearing as a credit. If not there after a week, email GoElite again with proof of the delay.
How the Referral System Works (From GoElite’s Side)
Understanding what happens behind the scenes helps you trust the system:
When you apply through the Apply Now link:
- School receives a referral notification — “This student came through GoElite”
- School auto-waives fee — it’s built into our partnership agreement
- GoElite gets a notification — we see that you applied and can track you
- You get priority support — because you came through us, we coordinate with the school
- Expedited review possible — we can request faster processing if your timeline is tight
Why this benefits you:
- Fee waived (saves $50–$150)
- Faster responses from the school (they know to prioritize GoElite students)
- Our consultant can follow up on your behalf
- If there are issues (missing documents, deficiencies), we flag them early
- We can request expedited admission decision (2 weeks instead of 3–4 weeks) if needed
From the school’s perspective: - They use GoElite as a trusted referral partner (reduces application fraud risk). They know students coming through GoElite are serious applicants. They cooperate with us on fee waivers and expedited processing. It’s a win-win: students get waivers, schools get qualified referrals.
